There are chances that it has occurred due to a carriage stall or a paper jam. If you want to fix this annoying issue, you have to follow the righteous steps in this regard.

Follow the Given Procedure to Resolve Grinding Sound Error in HP Printer

  • First of all, you need to turn your device on.
  • If you use 800, 900, 3820, 5500, and 6000 series, just open the topmost cover of your device. And then, check that the carriage can move to the center of the device. And when the carriage is not able to move to the center, you need to proceed to the next step.
  • If you use 5100, 5600, and 5800 series, just open the topmost cover of the printer. And then, ensure that the service station is allowing enough access to the cartridges. If the service station does not lower, you need to proceed to the next step.
  • Thereafter, unplug the power cable from the back side of the device.
  • And when the carriage moved to the center, or if the service station lowered, you need to remove the cartridges. You also need to check for any broken parts inside the device.
  • When the carriage did not move to the center, just try manually and slide the carriage towards the center. When the carriage is locked in the left or right position, move to the step further.
  • Now, close the top cover of the device then.
  • If you use HP DeskJet 900 series, you have to refer to the HP support document for removing the Cartridges when the Printer will not turn on or the Carriage is locked. And when the issue is on another model of a device, follow the next step.
  • Then, remove the rear access door and do check for any paper jams or paper obstructions. If any, remove them as soon as possible.
  • Now, make sure that the carriage is on the right side of the printer. Then, rotate the rear paper guide rollers upwards five times and then downwards four times. When the rollers will not move, you have to open the topmost cover and slide the carriage to the right side. And then, try to roll the rollers again while pushing the clutch inside. When the rollers don’t move, you can move to the step ahead.
  • After that, just replace the rear access door accessory or the automatic two-sided printing accessory and close the top cover.
  • And then, plug the power cable in again.
  • Turn the device on, and to replace the cartridges. If the carriage can move but is still giving out grinding noise, there are chances that are due to paper feed issue. And when it doesn’t move, it is a carriage stall issue.
  • When you have installed the cartridge, just print a test page.
